Community Building Week
It was great to start off community building week, in the chapel for the first community building week and to understand the goals of community building week and to meet our team for the first time. We meet with our group, and all did introductions and came up with a plan for the upcoming week. We all figured out each other's strengths and weaknesses so we can effectively plan and create a game for CBW. We all collaborated and came up with many game ideas that kids would enjoy playing while still being able to learn. We came up with a word guessing game so kids can learn words from class and match it to each definition.
We broke the teams up into two teams' development and design teams. This way we can take everyone's skills and be able to create something working and impactful. We also began communicating with each other over discord and the weekend about what we wanted our game to look like as well as the theme and kind of the layout of each page.
During the week we started coding we used flask, python and MySQL for the backend part of the code and for the front end we began developing in html and CSS. We also designed the pages in Figma to be able to make an easy design for or pages and to be able to see clearly what we want for game to look like. During the week we only had around half the team show up and some never showed up after the first day. It was really hard to find a time that everyone was available at. We also struggled on finding what work to do during these meetings or even on our own.
There were a lot of things that went well overall we all collaborated as a team to create a working and functioning game. I also tried to talk with a lot of groups to see how they were doing and what they were doing for their projects. Our team and other teams ended up joining a group framework to kind of help give them another option to choose from if they want to build upon it in the future.
We ended the week finishing up our game code and finishing up our video and slides. It was cool to see everyone's projects working at the chapel just seeing everyone's hard work working. It was also great because it felt like all the professors were a part of our teams since they spent the whole week there also. It was good to debrief with some of the Team Leads and talk with Scott about future improvements and what went well throughout the week.
